What I’m Up To…

13 March 2018 / By Judith

As an entrepreneur, things aren’t always plain sailing, especially when you have more than one business…

Over the years I’ve taken on board many projects, putting my heart and soul into each of them! Although all of the businesses I’m currently part of bring in their own challenges, I work to overcome them, and the success and results gained from them have made those hurdles worth it.

I currently own and am part of five businesses ranging from a marketing agency to an estate agency so my skills are spread across numerous areas and constantly put to the test!
One of the first businesses I started was a marketing agency which I called, Wright Angle Marketing (WAM), and is probably what I’m mostly known for. I set up WAM in 2001 and it has been growing ever since. From starting it in my lounge at home, it’s developed into an eight-strong team, offering a complete marketing service from our office based in the centre of Halifax.

Over the 17 years WAM has been up and running, I’m proud to say we’ve generated some amazing results for our clients, such as bringing in over £100,000 worth of enquires for energy saving experts, Sol PV within 2 months and quite recently, creating the brand for Gin Lane based in the newly refurbished Piece Hall and achieving nearly 2,000 Facebook likes for them in 2 weeks. WAM is still as strong as ever in 2018 and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

In 2005, myself and my husband, Bob, had always had an interest in getting involved with property investment, so after booking us onto a training course (as we had no idea where to start) R&J Property was born and we haven’t looked back since! At the moment we have a number of rental properties and we also like to buy, do up and re-sell properties.
Our latest venture is a first for us as we are in the process of buying an apartment in Whitby which we will run as a holiday let. We love and enjoy doing this together and it makes the perfect pension scheme!

I am passionate about helping other women become a success in their industry and dedicated to providing them with opportunities to gain confidence, new skills, support and collaborations with other women in business which is why when Marina Simioli, the owner of Ladies 4 Networking, approached me in 2015 to team up, I immediately said yes and L4N UK was born. Since L4N UK was established, it has developed into a vibrant organisation, with the monthly meetings being regularly attended by up to 30 female business owners and professionals, I feel privileged to be part of this continuously growing business.

A year later, back in 2016, as both I and Bob had gained quite a bit of experience in the property sector, we decided to start an estate agency with Matt Hayes and his wife, Sam, called Look At This Home (LATH) based in Sowerby Bridge. We’re SO proud of the success LATH has already had with one of our most recent achievements being number the one agent in the area from the 1st January 2017 to the 1st January 2018, selling a whopping 91 properties! We’re keen to see the agency flourish and become a flagship model of excellent customer service. Rumour has it there may be a franchise appearing, watch this space!

You would think being part of four businesses would keep me busy, think again! Nearing the end of 2017, I became part of LifeVantage, who are responsible for an all-natural scientific breakthrough in the field of biohacking the ageing code in the UK. The results LifeVantage have been getting have been incredible and after seeing them for myself I had to get involved! Being part of LifeVantage is an excellent business opportunity and being so passionate about the product, I’m ecstatic to be sharing it with others.

In my spare time (I do have some!), over the past seven years, I’ve been working with the charity, Calderdale SmartMove I currently chair the management committee. The charity assists homeless and vulnerably housed people find accommodation in Calderdale – a cause which I hold close to my heart. In November last year, myself and three members of the WAM team, took part in the annual SmartMove Charity Sleepout, sleeping under the stars at The Shay Stadium in Halifax. It was a long and cold night but it made us all appreciate how lucky we are to have a roof over our heads and raised awareness for those who aren’t as lucky as us. Through taking part in the sleepout, the WAM team raised over £500 for Calderdale SmartMove – an incredible achievement and an amount that will help those less fortunate than us.

I also sit on the management committee of Business 4 Calderdale which brings together local businesses to network, share best practice and develop relationships.

When I am not doing any of the above you can usually find me spending time with my family and our two dogs!

I often think that being in business is a bit like watching ducks swimming in a pond. To the outside world, you see the duck gliding across the water with apparently no effort happening. The reality, however, is much different, underneath the water away from what you can see from the outside, the duck is paddling for dear life.
